The Debt Dilemma – Part 1
May 15th, 2008 Filed under: Bankruptcy Cost,Bankruptcy Service,Bankruptcy Tips,Online Bankruptcy — Bankruptcy AuthorWhen I finally realized that my debt was eating me alive, all I wanted was to make go away. I wanted there to be some sort of magic to make as though it had not happened. I had happened through some bad decisions and some bad luck. I felt terrible and wanted to run away. That was not possible and was not a realistic solution. First I tried doing extra work and generated some good extra income though not enough to pay my debt off. No matter how much I paid, it seemed to grow faster than I could pay. I put off filing or even considering bankruptcy.
I tried to negotiate and reason with my creditors. Some were good and only a few were unreasonable. In fact the one that was the most unreasonable was the one that ended up being the one that had kept inaccurate information from an old divorce of over 20 years prior. It required some phone calls after a few letters. Once on the phone though, I was referred to a law firm and spoke with a very accommodating paralegal. It seems they had erroneously kept an item that was incorrect from a divorce on my credit file. The Ex-wife’s father had been in collections.
Who knows, maybe someone made an honest mistake and buried a deep hard to find item in a file in Florida at some obscure office. In any case, it was to be removed years prior, perhaps as many as 15 or so years and was beyond what Federal and State Law allowed to be kept on anyone’s credit file. This was awesome and really gave me something to actually feel good about. I had found an error that a big and I do mean a big financial institution had made and wanted to get it corrected quickly and quietly. Well, to learn more about how to find and remove erroneous items like this come to my website and check out my e-book.
